Throughout my research so far several questions have come up:
What are the causes of addiction?
Is it biological or environmental?
Who is affected with it?
Is it a disease or is it a moral issue?
Is there a cure or just treatment?
Is treatment helpful?
How many addicts recover?
Should it be decriminalized?
Does the threat of legal consequences dissuade users?
Why do people use despite consequences?
Are they coping, escaping, etc? Or are they just hooked?
I believe many of the sites I have found will be extremely helpful in answering these questions, however I will need to do more specific research as well. From what I've read so far it seems like something happens in the addicts brain that causes them to be unable to stop, despite consequences and a desire to stop.
